Actively recalling a word — rather than just re-reading it — is what makes it stick. This is the "testing effect" (Roediger & Karpicke, 2006), one of the most consistently replicated findings in learning science. Layered on top is spaced repetition, based on Ebbinghaus's forgetting curve and the Leitner system: words your child gets wrong come back sooner, and words they know well come back less often — the same principle behind flashcard tools like Anki.

The science

Because the goal here is speed, not just correctness, the maths module leans on Precision Teaching / fluency-based instruction (Ogden Lindsley; Kent Johnson & Elizabeth Street) — scoring digits correct per minute, the real measure of automaticity, not just a right/wrong tally. Each fact moves through a spaced-repetition schedule — resurfacing right before it's likely to be forgotten, held back if it's answered correctly but too slowly to count as automatic — paired with interleaved practice (Rohrer & Taylor, 2007) so operations stay mixed, never drilled one at a time.

What this test will not tell you

No comparison with other children

CBSE prescribes no General Knowledge syllabus, and no Indian body publishes what a child of a given age should know — the last national measurement of this content at Class 3 was discontinued in 2024. Anyone selling you an age percentile for general knowledge invented it. We report against the syllabus instead.

It measures exposure as much as ability

Books at home, travel, languages spoken, time online. General knowledge tracks all of these more closely than any other module here. A lower score often says more about what a child has been around than about the child, and the report says so on its first page.

What it does tell you

Exactly which questions were missed, what the answers were, and why — across six strands, each tagged to the NCERT class it belongs to. That is a list you can act on this week, which a percentile never is.
